Bayelsa alleges plot to embarrass President Jonathan and state governor

The Bayelsa State government yesterday cried out accusing some elements of plotting to embarrass the government of the state and ultimately, president Goodluck Jonathan, by accusing them of diverting relief materials meant for the internal displaced victims of the flood disaster.

This was disclosed yesterday by the secretary to the state government, Edmond Allison-Oguru, while receiving a truckload of donations from the management of Chevron Oil Limited.

Allison-Oguru said the state government have put machinery in place to apprehend those behind the alleged plot.

He reportedly said, "We have warned them to desist from such a nefarious act that is capable of bringing down the good gesture of the president and the governor to disrepute.

"Government is disturbed when relief materials are diverted by some third party, hence it has mandated specific government officials to handle matters relating to donations of relief materials."

He admitted that relief materials were once diverted by those he referred to as a "third party" but such practices had since stopped due to the adoption of an effective "internal control system".
